 Getting Started

 

Q: What age can my child start martial arts at EHMAA?

Our main Kids Kickboxing Programme is ideal for ages 5–11, and we also offer cadet and adult classes.

 

Q: Do I need any martial arts experience to join?

Not at all. Our classes are beginner-friendly, and many of our students start with zero experience. We’ll guide you from your very first class.

 

Q: How do I book a free trial class?

You can book directly via our website, social media, or by contacting us via email/message. Free trials are available for all age groups.

 

 Classes & Programmes

 

Q: What martial arts style do you teach?

We teach Kickboxing as our core discipline, with elements of striking, movement, pad work, fitness drills, and controlled sparring. We follow structured syllabus programmes for each age group.

 

Q: What does a typical class include?

Warm-ups, fitness, technique drills, pad work, combinations, and partner exercises. Depending on your level, classes may include sparring or grading prep.

 

Q: What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable gym clothes (t-shirt and shorts/joggers/leggings). Bring water and a towel. Once you join, we’ll advise on uniforms and training gear.

 

Q: Do I need gloves or pads?

We provide equipment for your trial. Once you become a member, we’ll guide you on buying your own training gear, and any other gear needed for you to continue your training.

 Class Times & Attendance

 

Q: What are your current class times?

• Tuesdays - Cadets & Adults: 7:30 – 9:00 PM (12 years +)

• Wednesdays - Kids Kickboxing (5–11 yrs): 7:00 – 7:55 PM, Sparring Class (ages 6+): 8:00 – 8:55 PM

 

Q: Can I join partway through a term or programme?

Yes. We have a rolling enrolment policy, so you can join anytime.

 

Q: What if I miss a class?

Let us know in advance if possible. 

 

 Payments & Memberships

 

Q: How much does it cost?

We offer monthly memberships based on age group and frequency of training. 

 

Q: Can I pay per session?

We are sorry, but we do not offer a pay-as-you-train option. All payments need to be made in advance for the sessions, via direct debit. If you have any further questions our payment options or classes, feel free to ask!

 Grading & Development

 

Q: What’s the grading process like?

Grading takes place every 4 months. Students demonstrate techniques, combos, fitness, and sparring (age/level dependent). Gradings help track progress and set goals.

  • White & Red Belt

Q: How will I know when I/my child is ready to grade?

Your instructor will let you know when you’re ready. We only put students forward when we’re confident they can succeed.

 

Q: What should I wear for grading?

Your full EHMAA uniform, including belt, gloves, and any required protective gear. Bring water, towel, and a great attitude!

 

 Safety, Supervision & Wellbeing

 

Q: Is EHMAA a safe place to train?

Yes, our classes are structured, supervised, and taught by qualified instructors. All contact training is controlled and appropriate to age and level.

 

Q: Are your instructors DBS checked and qualified?

Yes. All EHMAA instructors are experienced, DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and insured.

 

Q: Will my child be sparring?

Sparring is introduced gradually and only in a controlled, safe environment. It’s optional at first and becomes part of the programme as students grow in confidence and rank.

 

Q: What if my child has additional needs?

We aim to be as inclusive as possible. Please talk to us about any specific needs or concerns, and we’ll do our best to support your child.

 

 Parents & Family

Q: Do you have female instructors or female-only classes?

We have a diverse team and welcome students of all genders. While we don’t currently run women-only classes, all our sessions are inclusive, respectful, and beginner-friendly.

 

Q: Can I watch my child train?

Parents are welcome to watch from our designated areas, especially when your child is starting out. 

 

 Competitions & Events

 

Q: Do you take part in competitions?

Yes! For those interested, we attend friendly inter-club events and competitions. Participation is optional but encouraged for those wanting to challenge themselves.

Q: Do you train during school holidays?

Yes,  we train throughout most of the year, including school holidays. We only break for 2 - 3 weeks during the summer and a 2 week break over Christmas.
