FAQ
Getting Started
Q: What age can my child start martial arts at EHMAA?
Our main Kids Kickboxing Programme is ideal for ages 5–11, and we also offer cadet and adult classes.
Q: Do I need any martial arts experience to join?
Not at all. Our classes are beginner-friendly, and many of our students start with zero experience. We’ll guide you from your very first class.
Q: How do I book a free trial class?
You can book directly via our website, social media, or by contacting us via email/message. Free trials are available for all age groups.
Classes & Programmes
Q: What martial arts style do you teach?
We teach Kickboxing as our core discipline, with elements of striking, movement, pad work, fitness drills, and controlled sparring. We follow structured syllabus programmes for each age group.
Q: What does a typical class include?
Warm-ups, fitness, technique drills, pad work, combinations, and partner exercises. Depending on your level, classes may include sparring or grading prep.
Q: What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable gym clothes (t-shirt and shorts/joggers/leggings). Bring water and a towel. Once you join, we’ll advise on uniforms and training gear.
Q: Do I need gloves or pads?
Not for your trial class. Once you become a member, we’ll guide you on buying your own training gear, and any other gear needed for you to continue your training.

Safety, Supervision & Wellbeing
Q: Is EHMAA a safe place to train?
Yes, our classes are structured, supervised, and taught by qualified instructors. All contact training is controlled and appropriate to age and level.
Q: Are your instructors DBS checked and qualified?
Yes. All EHMAA instructors are experienced, DBS-checked, first-aid trained, and insured.
Q: Will my child be sparring?
Sparring is introduced gradually and only in a controlled, safe environment. It’s optional at first and becomes part of the programme as students grow in confidence and rank.
Q: What if my child has additional needs?
We aim to be as inclusive as possible. Please talk to us about any specific needs or concerns, and we’ll do our best to support your child.
Parents & Family
Q: Do you have female instructors or female-only classes?
We have a diverse team and welcome students of all genders. While we don’t currently run women-only classes, all our sessions are inclusive, respectful, and beginner-friendly.
Q: Can I watch my child train?
Due to the limited space available around the training area, and our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure training environment, we operate a drop-off and collection system for all classes. This approach also supports our safeguarding procedures and allows students to train with fewer distractions, helping them to build confidence and independence.
Children & Cadets should be brought to the entrance when the doors open at the advertised time and will be handed back to parents by a coach or assistant at the end of the class. Parents are asked not to enter the training area unless specifically invited to do so.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us provide the best possible training environment for all of our members.
Competitions & Events
Q: Do you take part in competitions?
Yes! For those interested, we attend friendly inter-club events and competitions. Participation is optional but encouraged for those wanting to challenge themselves.
Q: Do you train during school holidays?
Yes, we train throughout most of the year, including school holidays. We only break for 2 - 3 weeks during the summer and a 2 week break over Christmas.
